Citation:  Harvard Magazine, September-October, 2004 [p. 31].
Index Words:  haystacks, mistakes, tourism
Place:  Germany
Notes:  The bundles look more like stooks of straw than stacks of hay. But the grass looks more like a hay aftermath than stubble, and it's hard to discern any of the expected cereal ears at the tips of the stems. Setting aside this ambiguity, this is a fascinating example of hay as picturesque tourist lure. The emblem of photogenic rural serenity is literally on the same page as Venetian gondolas posed against San Giorgio. It is not clear however, which of the Harvard Alumni Association's many tempting 2005 adventures is being promoted by the hay picture.
