Image: Medford marshes
ID:  325

Artist Death Date:  1889
Artist Country: American
Title of Work:  Medford marshes
Date of Work:  1862-1863
Medium:  oil
Period/Style:  nineteenth century
URL:  http://128.11.41.128/artemis/fullrecord.asp?oid=33099&did=100
Citation:  Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
Index Words:  haystack, haycart, wagon, workers
Place:  United States
Notes:  Without the excellent interactive zoom provided by the MFA, Boston, the hay content of this black and white reproduction would be hard to pick out. There is a low hay mound on a staddle, perhaps the beginning of a monumental stack a la Heade. To the right is a tiny group of wagon and workers in a marsh hay field. Sails of boats apparently plying the creeks are also evident.
