Notes:  The shape of these haycocks is a fabulous geographic anomaly. While tall, staked cocks still survive in the Austrian Tyrol, none this skinny have been encountreed elsewhere. Also of interest here are the coppiced trees, closer to the haycocks than they would be in other regions.

The haystacks around a stake are obviously traditional, as are the bundles of twigs leaned against them for protection against the animals. The cutting blades of an old mowing-machine, possibly once horse drawn, stand up just to the left of the tractor.
