Title of Work:  Haystack against a beaver slide
Date of Work:  c 1992
Medium:  photograph
Period/Style:  twentieth century

Index Words:  beaver-slide, haystack
Place:  Colorado
Notes:  The wooden beaver-slide was a favored device for lifting loose hay to the top of a high stack, especially in the Rocky Mountain region. It is still used in some areas, notably in the Big Hole Valley of western Montana. Here, according to the caption, it is being used to prop up a haystack in Grand County, Colorado. The disrepair of the slide seem to confirm that it is no longer functional.
